Sorry I did not answer sooner. No, they are bantams. This little cock weighs 30 ounces. He is a splash or sport from blue red matings. He is an American Game Bantam.

I doubt that he is game. He has been bred for exhibition and an OEGB was used in his history to get the bantam gene. The original Black Reds that where used in his parentage were a cross of Gleason Whitehackle onto Red Jungle Fowl. These Black Reds run around 36 to 38 ounce in the males. Then to make Blues I crossed one of those cocks to a Blue Red OEGB to capture the color. Bred back to the Black Reds to dilute the OEGB blood. This line of birds is for exhibition purposes only. Its hard to nearly impossible to get a bird down to 2 lbs or less without a dwarf gene introduced. There are bantams that are game out there, but they tend to run in the 3 pound range. One thing that I can say in making this cross, the game blood is definatly dominate. I have also made a cross between the Black Reds mentioned above and Spangled Standard Old English Games. In their third generation now, they tend to be 3 to 4 pounds and the type and color are very encouraging. I will post a pick of them if there is interest in seeing them.
